"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We're afraid."
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We will fall!"
"Come to the edge."
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew. :floating:

Some of you have noted me knowing I live in Texas and the coming level 5 Hurricana Rita. I live in Dallas which is far north in the state - the most we'll get is crazy winds and rain come Sunday - but nothing like what South Texas will get or Louisiana got with Katrina. My MIL is in south Houston and they are holding up in their home b/c you couldn't get out of the city with the traffic gridlock and the fact they were now running out of gasoline everywhere. :disbelief: She doesn't live in a "mandatory evacuation" area so she should be fine, but of course her home could have much damage. :( We will just  and hold tight across the next few days.

They expect gas to top out around $4 a gallon. :| I filled up this morning and they were already running out of low grade level and you had to buy middle grade or premium. Shutting down the oil refineries in Houston will only make this issue worse.

Also all the evacuees from Katrina that went to Houston are now being moved to Dallas - in addition to the estimated 22,000 we already received. So we expect more traffic, etc. I have to stock up on diapers/formula because after Katrina they were flying off the shelves to help the evacuees and now this will only increase.

Its crazy. Its like a science fiction movie you don't think will ever happen in your lifetime.

Maybe Bush will pay attention to the global warming environmental issues a bit more now. :|

Anyway - just letting everyone know I'm fine. I'll post new thumbs tomorrow.

man, i actually thought of you when i heard of the second hurricane, glad to hear you will be ok. :glomp:

Most europeans have not fully comprehended the situation, we dont fully understand the kind of damage those forces can cause since we have never experienced them.

Really glad to hear that you're going to be safe. I wholeheartedly agree with what you said about Bush - he needs to stop allowing the dumping of global warming increasing waste into the atmosphere - does he REALLY need a louder wake up call?!
Best wishes!

Whether you flee or pursue...Sweetly you lure me to my destruction...

Forgive me, but expecting Bush to pay attention anything is a funny statement...

Fiction is a reflection of life through and imperfect mirror
I live in northern illinois, and we have had many families who lost their home to Katrina "adopted" (literally taken into the homes) by many strangers. I have a feeling we may be doing the same with texas evacuees.

I have one of the few good men.
:hmm: On the news this evening they were interviewing a guy from an "environment policy thinktank" over in the US, and he was adamant that it was all down to a natural cycle, absolutely nothing to do with pollusion, no siree. Oh, and apparently our leading climate experts over here in the UK don't know squat, according to him... unlike the "hurricane forecasters" who testified before Congress that it was all down to the naturaul cycle, dada dada dada... :hmm:

Oh, and get this - according to some religious groups in the States, the current box-office smash "March Of The Penguins" proves the existence of 'Intelligent Design'. :wtf: Strange days, indeed...

And thank you for this one.

i like it when you scratch my back
:petting: Just hold up and I hope your MIL is safe... for a second I thought you meant MILF :o

I donated $3 to the Red Cross for Katrina via my high school and lunch money because I'm poor. I'll be sure to send some down when we start a relief fund for Texas.

Global warming? Probably not, but something's gotta give.
My aunt & her four (mostly grown) kids live in Houston. I think they're headed for New Mexico. They couldn't find a hotel near the oldest's college in Lubbock--everything is booked solid. We have family in Los Alamos, NM, so that's where they'll stay if they can get out at all. They're not in a mandatory zone either, but aren't taking chances. The really bothersome thing is that the storm has interupted my aunt's chemo, and we're all worried about the possible effects there.

My fingers & toes are all crossed for everyone on the whole of the Gulf Coast, and I'll send positive vibes to your mama in law.
