"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We're afraid."
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We will fall!"
"Come to the edge."
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.

Some of you have noted me knowing I live in Texas and the coming level 5 Hurricana Rita. I live in Dallas which is far north in the state - the most we'll get is crazy winds and rain come Sunday - but nothing like what South Texas will get or Louisiana got with Katrina. My MIL is in south Houston and they are holding up in their home b/c you couldn't get out of the city with the traffic gridlock and the fact they were now running out of gasoline everywhere.
They expect gas to top out around $4 a gallon.
Also all the evacuees from Katrina that went to Houston are now being moved to Dallas - in addition to the estimated 22,000 we already received. So we expect more traffic, etc. I have to stock up on diapers/formula because after Katrina they were flying off the shelves to help the evacuees and now this will only increase.
Its crazy. Its like a science fiction movie you don't think will ever happen in your lifetime.
Maybe Bush will pay attention to the global warming environmental issues a bit more now.
Anyway - just letting everyone know I'm fine. I'll post new thumbs tomorrow.

Most europeans have not fully comprehended the situation, we dont fully understand the kind of damage those forces can cause since we have never experienced them.

Forgive me, but expecting Bush to pay attention anything is a funny statement...

Oh, and get this - according to some religious groups in the States, the current box-office smash "March Of The Penguins" proves the existence of 'Intelligent Design'.

i like it when you scratch my back
I donated $3 to the Red Cross for Katrina via my high school and lunch money because I'm poor. I'll be sure to send some down when we start a relief fund for Texas.

My aunt & her four (mostly grown) kids live in Houston. I think they're headed for New Mexico. They couldn't find a hotel near the oldest's college in Lubbock--everything is booked solid. We have family in Los Alamos, NM, so that's where they'll stay if they can get out at all. They're not in a mandatory zone either, but aren't taking chances. The really bothersome thing is that the storm has interupted my aunt's chemo, and we're all worried about the possible effects there.
My fingers & toes are all crossed for everyone on the whole of the Gulf Coast, and I'll send positive vibes to your mama in law.
